After an good performance midweek at Camberley where the Moles were very unlucky not to get anything...

Due to an impressive display by the Camberley keeper who kept them in the game, the Moles ventured towards Gatwick Airport for their encounter against an unpredictable Horley side who sit half way in the league.

It was a very impressive second half mauling against a hard working Horley Town outfit with 5 goals, a missed penalty, disallowed goal, hitting the post and having an effort kicked off the line such was the dominance of the Moles.

The match started well for Molesey who completely dominated possession from the off. It was clearly evident that Horley were there to spoil and stifle Molesey's fluent game plan, which after 3 excellent third man runs from Chalke were the only real problems Molesey caused Horley in the first 20 minutes, which saw one of those efforts brilliantly saved by the Horley keeper, the other a whipped cross which no-one got onto to tap home and a shot sent over the bar.

As the half grew so did Horley. With the Moles having so much possession, they seem to get complacent playing at a tempo well suited to Horley and would have sent anyone watching to sleep. Gradually Horley started to dominate possession being that little bit sharper, then bringing out a good but comfortable save from Allen in the Molesey goal. A Horley move down the right saw an inviting cross missed from an acute angle with the goal begging.

Then you see it coming, another identical move down the right, another good cross, but this time stabbed home by McElligott after 35 minutes. It was much more of the same bar a few speradic efforts from Molesey as the half closed.

Well if the flying teacups and hairdryers had anything to do with half time talk it certainly worked. It was as if a switch has been turned on !

An immediate tactical player change saw Charles come on for Rodney had an immediate impact. From Molesey's kick off the ball was worked out to Charles, who got to the byline and whipped a great cross for the ghost like Lampard style 3rd man run by Chalke to fire home after 14 seconds, this lead the way for the rest of the half.

With the Moles now playing at the tempo they are accustomed to, Horley were taken by surprise and had no answer, as 4 minutes later a cross on the edge of the box was met with Palmer's left foot strike giving the Holey keeper no chance. 3 minutes later, after another fine build up, found Baxter slotted through by Palmer made no mistake slotting past the oncoming keeper.

Whilst the Moles were now firing off all cylinders and in full flow, it was attack after attack which Horley stumblingly held firm to Keep it to 3 goals. Then from a corner, Horley cleared for only the ball to be delivered at the far post where Robinson made a fine effort to squeeze his header in from a tight angle only to be given offside. From another corner another fine header found Spencer lurking who's shot was deflected off the line for another corner.

The mounting pressure took its toll when the Moles were awarded a penalty which was brilliantly saved by the Horley keeper. The Moles were still not finished, another edge of the box strike by Palmer hit the post as Molesey drove on giving Horley no rest bite, but after the goal blitz and near misses and comfortably leading in the game, the Moles started to take their foot off the gas as Horley started to creep back into the game, and it was then a great effort by the Horley striker brought out an excellent and very important save from Allen who tipped the effort over the bar. Then a melee saw Moles eventually clearing the ball, and another Horley inviting cross which eluded everyone and came to no avail.

This slight drop in tempo allowing Horley into game, was stepped up by Molesey who started to take the initiative again, when Palmer flicked on his header finding Baxter who, with a square looking Horley defence, pounced on and calmly slotted the ball home for number 4. This goal seemed to take the complete stuffing out of the hard working Horley players, then as the game worked its way to a close, the goal of the game announced itself. After many passes during the build up play, it ended with an excellent run by Elliott gliding past 3 tired looking players, passed to Lewington who intricate pass inside the Horley full back found the energetic Charles down the right flank who's perfect cross along the 6 yard box was gratefully tapped home by Baxter for his hat trick and Molesey's 5th. With a few minutes left the Moles saw the game out as the referee drew the game to a close.

One thing the Moles will have have learnt is that they cannot take any team for granted and must play at a tempo suited to their game, because when they do, they a easy on the eye and a joy to watch.

Next up will be a difficult encounter at home against Guildford City who currently are fighting for their lives to get out of the bottom zone. Kick Off 3pm
