....to knock Chertsey out of the Southern Combination Cup on Tuesday night as Molesey come away  5-1 winners to ease into the 1/4 final.

The Moles have scored a staggering 56 goals in the first 1/4 of the season, playing a total of 15 games, it is almost 4 goals per game, so everyone was thinking will this be like the previous meeting between the two clubs and another 9-0 win for the Moles, but astute enthusiasts would know that no two games are never the same.

The Moles made 6 changes from the team that started against Greenwich Borough in the FA Vase.

It was clear right from the start that Chertsey were not here just to make the numbers up, infact far from it, as they started well having their lions share of possesion in the opening 10 minutes however, on 5 mintues a good move down the Molesey left flank ended up with Baxter having a good strike which the Chertsey keeper could onto parry out for the on rushing Windsor to fire home from 18 yards.

With Chertsey still working hard and having good periods of possession, it was Molesey who struck next on 20 mins when the Chertsey keeper went to clear the ball but went to Baxter who fired the ball home to make it 2-0

By now Molesey were starting to dominate the game with more chances and possession nevertheless, from a quick break Chertsey forced the Moles keeper Hatton to pull off a smart save to divert it for a corner.  From the resulting corner the ball dropped down to the Chertsey player forcing another good  save from Hatton. At the other end the Chertsey keeper was also busy as the Moles missed chances and forced some good saves keeping it down to only 2 when on the half hour, Chertsey played the ball wide to their winger who delivered a fine cross where Spencer, who under pressure and trying to clear, unfortunately steered the ball into the corner making 2-1 at the interval.

Moments after the half time you couls see that Molesey came out with more urgency in their game and started to dominate proceedings keeping Chertsey in their own half whilst they were defending stoutly, but then came a devasting 7 minute spell where Molesey put the game to bed. On 61 minutes a bit of magic from McShane who beat his man on the edge of the box and curled his shot into the far corner to make it 3-1.  By now the Moles were in complete control, then on 63 minutes, a good one touch move down the right ripped the Chertsey defence apart, ending in Charles' cross being headed home by Baxter who was lingering at the far post.  Then on 68 minutes, a good run by Charles down the right ended with his goal bound strike being deflected past the Chertsey keeper for number 5.

With still 20 minutes left, Molesey whilst comfortable in possession saw the game out, but credit to Chertsey who never gave up when their striker ot hit the effort hit the bottom of the post and a long distance shot which was comfortably dealt with by Hatton.

In the remaining 20 minutes the Moles could have increased their margin had it not been for the Chertsey keeper and more missed chances as the game fizzled out to a close.

The Moles now face either Epsom Athletic, Knaphill or Hanworth Villa in the 1/4 final.
