Dorking’s pre-Christmas hang over continued on Saturday as goals from James McShane (3), Lewis Ackerman, Luke Elliot any Mannie Quarshie gave an impressive Molesey a comfortable win over a below par Dorking side.

Despite the heavy rain over the past few days before the game, Dorking had worked hard to ensure the game went ahead with remedial work on the Meadowbank pitch on Saturday morning ensuring that match referee Dele Sotmirin giving the game the go ahead mid morning.

Dorking had drafted in Brockham first team keeper Andy Morgan to replace the injured John McBride and the absent Tim Brewster, and despite the heavy defeat, he did well in his CCL debut for the side.

Dorking had some of the players that had missed the defeat at HAnworth Villa back in the Dorking shirt, but Dorking seemed out of sorts in a disjointed first half which saw Molesey sweep in to a match winning 4-0 lead at half time. The back four of Sam Currie, Shane Duffell, Dan Dunning and Isaac Philpott were more often than not exposed by a failure to track back from a static midfield, something that had been second nature for the team during the recent excellent run which had seen the side move into 8th spot in the division.

The second and fourth goal were cases in point, as midfield lack of concentration saw a confident Molesey side effectively have free efforts to put the balls into the box, giving the Dorking defence little chance as the Chicks keeper watched helpless as Molesey built an unassailable lead.

A hair drying half time team talk from manager Pete Buckland and coach Steve Hurd injected some urgency into the Dorking side in the first 20 minutes of the second half, and it was no more than Dorking deserved when leading scorer Leroy Hyett confidently slotted the ball home from the penalty spot in the 55th minute to give Dorking a goal back.
Dorking then had their best spell of the game, and in truth Martin Smith and Hyett probably should have grabbed at least one more consolation goal as chances went begging, with Billy Ramsey often the instrument creating the opportunity for his strikers.

But it would have only been a consolation had Dorking scored again, as Molesey were firmly in control, and it was no surprise when the Moles made it 5-1 with 10 minutes to go. The goal of the game came with just 5 minutes to go, James McShane weaving thorugh a multitude of challenges, quick feet seeing the striker create space in the box, a swerve seeing the ball taken past the keeper and a side foot into the empty net seeing the Molesey player grab his hat-trick in style.

A tired Dorking team finished the game a poor second, but manager Pete Buckland will know that his side are better than the past two results suggest, and that the side is capable of going on another impressive run as the side go into the Christmas and New Year programme.

That fixture list sees Dorking play leaders Guildford City away on Monday 27 December, kick off at the Specutrum is 12-30, while on Bank holiday Monday 2nd January 2nd placed Windsor are the visitors to Meadowbank. The game versus Windsor will be played at 11-30am, as usual Dorking will allow children free entry when accompanied by a paying adult.
