ITS TOTAL FRUSTRATION FOR THE MOLES

The Moles rested 4 players from the team that beat Raynes Park Vale 3-0 on Saturday.

It was the first shut-out for the Moles this season, since their second Pre-Season game against Uxbridge at the beginning of July, but they will rue their missed chances in this game they dominated throughout bar a 15 minute spell on the half hour mark, and must be wondering what they had to do to win this League Cup tie at Camberley on Tuesday night, which was eventually decided on a penalty shootout with Camberley coming away as winners.

As usual, it was no surprise this was a fiesty affair between the two teams, where there was a contrast in styles of play which were evident on the night for all to see, the usual long ball game from Camberley primarily from their keeper Bradshaw kicks and the football pass and move style of Molesey.

It was Molesey who started more brightly, and it wasn't long before Bradshaw in the Camberley goal was in action to make early saves from Baxter and Palmer, this before making many of his worldy saves on the night, where quite rightly he was the Man of the Match and Camberley's hero, because had it not been for his heroics Camberley would have conceded 4-5 goals, notwithstanding the Moles having a shot blocked on Camberley's goal line, then hit the bar with a fine effort and a great strike hitting the foot of the post. Football enthusiasts will call it as 'Just was one of those games which wasn't to be'!

As mentioned before, these affairs between the two teams are fiesty, so when early rash tackles on Palmer and then Chalke went unpunished, from thereon one could sense that the referee had a game on on his hands, although what can be said was due to his own making. Thus followed some heavy tackles by both teams when on 33 minutes, one of those tackles made by Molesey defender was judged to be bad enought to warrant a red card.

After the dismassal, Camberley took hold of the game against the 10 men of Molesey, having the lions share of possession but not causing any real problem for Allen in the Molesey goal up until half time.

At the start of the second half Molesey re-organised their team by taking off Baxter who had a slight groin strain, and replaced him with Charles on at right back, moving Elliott in at centre back who with Spencer expertly dealt with Camberley's the long ball tactics.

As tackles kept flying in and more players booked, on 55 minutes, one of those tackles made by the Camberley player was also judged to be bad enough for the red card bringing the teams level with 10 men, after which, going up the slope, the Moles started to apply real pressure on Camberley mainly due to the maurauding runs by Charles, and this was when Bradshaw saved Camberley's blushes with a nucleus of excellent saves to keep Molesey at bay. The first from Chalke coming out to smother his goalbound strike, the next two saves were from Palmer's strikes, who was a constant threat all night and must have wondered what he had to do to score. Then with the introduction of McShane, saw him go slide past two defenders where his great effort was equalled by Bradshaw's excellent save, then the same player was put through to bring out another excellent double save from Bradshaw, which brought out a loud round of applause from the onlooking crowd.

At the other end Allen was called into action with a fine block save from the Camberley striker, and saw a header which missed the far post, but all the action was happening at the other end. Further strikes from Molesey's Grobler hitting the bar and Palmer, yet again, hit the foot of the post as the game ventured towards extra time.

In extra time it was still the Moles playing their football subsequently plying on the pressure as Camberley started to tire, by picking up all the seconds from from Camberley's clearances and long ball tactic, but with all this possession and pressure, the Moles could not get past Bradshaw, even when he was beaten his defenders were there on hand to give some help with a goal line clearance and header off the line.

Somehow, the game ended 0-0 and penalties prevailed, but Bradshaw still wasn't finished, he made 2 penalty saves and hit the final penalty to take Camberley through to the 3rd round where they play Ashford (Middx) at Krooner Park.

One cannot fault the Moles desire and committment even when down to 10 men.

It was an excellent effort by the lads giving their all, so hopefully this form by creating chance after chance will continue for this Saturdays encounter at Horley Town this Saturday - Kick Off 3pm
