The Moles welcomed back 3 of the 4 missing players from Badshot Lea midweek game, two of which started in this tricky fixture against a Knaphill side

Who previously won their last 3 games, where in contrast Molesey had lost their last 2 against lower opposition.

No two games are ever the same, but were the Molesey supporters thinking of a repeat of Knaphill's 8-0 hammering back in September at Redding Way ?

The outcome was far from it as Knaphill are more resilient outfit nowadays however, Molesey who had 2 goals disallowed during the first half, the first from McShanse who stabbed home at the far post after Spencer's flick was ruled for offside, then Linegar pounced on a rebound after Palmers strike was excellently saved by Postance for debatable offside decision again. The Moles will also rue their missed penalty and clear cut chances in what could have been a comfortable win in a game where the Molesey keeper was rarely troubled, but it wasn't to be as to Knaphill's credit they dug in deep to keep the game on edge at 1-0 until the very final minute.

On a very difficult pitch it was obvious the game would not be a spectacle, it would be a more of a blood and guts performance needed as opposed to any free flowing football as experienced at Knaphill's Redding Way previous encounter.

This was a below par performance from the Moles who actually started the better of the two teams having most of the possession however, it was a long ball that created the first and only goal of the game after 6 minutes when two Knaphill defenders contested for the same ball, but Morris header intended to go back to his keeper left him stranded as his header was inadvertently diverted back into an open area where Palmer was the quickest to latch onto the loose ball to guide the ball into an empty net to put the Moles 1 up.

From here on Molesey dominated the game bar the rare Knaphill forays the first from Oloroyde after 35 mins who saw his shot deflected for a corner.

With Molesey comfortable in possession half chances were created but to no avail, but with half time approaching, the Moles had their first of three glorious chances when McShane went passed two defenders, got to the byline and pulled it back for unmarked Linegar who with an open goal at his mercy blasted the ball over the bar from 6 yards.

Half Time: 1-0

Whilst Molesey looking comfortable, it was clear that Knaphill up'd their game for the second half having more possession than the first half but without really creating any clear cut chances and troubling the Molesey keeper.

The game became a more even affair with much happening both teams. Knaphill's Coke had a strike which went straight to the Moles keeper and Palmer again brought out another excellent save from Postance going down to his left to divert for a corner. Because of the telling conditions the game began to take a lull in proceedings and started to take its toll on both sets of the players weary legs, so it was no surprise that substitutions were made from both sides.

With 25 minutes to go, it was clear that the introduction of the 3 Molesey substitutions brought some obvious energy to the team and life to the game, and it was at this point Molesey stepped up a gear and started to dominate possession again. A fine move ended with an excellent through ball by Grobler to McShane who went passed two defenders and rounded the advancing keeper, only to miss-hit his shot into an empty net by hitting the side netting instead.

Then due to Grobler's trickery, he was fouled on the edge of the box which saw McShane's free kick just miss the far post with Postance stranded,

The ever energetic and pace of Charles substituting for the injured Palmer, was causing the tired Knaphill defenders all sorts of problems, and it was Charles and Grobler who worked an opening for Grobler to send an exquisite cross missing out everyone but for Chalke, who timed his run perfectly in on the blind side, but misguided his header across the goal as opposed to heading home into an empty net.

With Molesey now dominant, a fine through ball was latched onto by Chalke however he was tripped in the box for penalty. Up stepped the Pratley-Jones who's well hit strike was brilliantly saved by Postance.

This wasn't the end, following a Molesey corner, Knaphill cleared their lines which went to Tom Windsor who goal bound strike from the edge of the box hit the inside of the post and subsequently cleared much to the relief of the Knaphill defence.

Then it was Knaphill's turn in injury time, when a long ball was sent into the Molesey penalty box created a melee and an eventual block by Allen in the Molesey goal had shouts of 'penalty' from the Knaphill players was turned away by the referee, then from the resulting goal kick the referee blew up for full time.

It must be noted that credit must be given to both teams and sets of players for their efforts and endeavor to make it an enjoyable match under very trying conditions.

FT: 1-0
