Molesey slip up in the wet.

Westside 3 Molesey 2
With this being Molesey’s only 2nd away fixture of the season, it was always going to be a tough test against a buzzing Westside team.
This was game of 2 halves, Westside started the better of the 2 teams, and looked sharper across the pitch.
With the drizzle coming down the pitch was assisting the ball to be zipped around and it was on the 20th minute when Westside took the advantage of some slack defending, when their number 6 couldn’t miss with a free header on the edge on the 6 yard box.
It was another 13 minutes when the Molesey midfield lost possession on the halfway line, and a couple of swift passes, which gave the Westfield left winger a chance to cut in from the edge of the box and curl an unstoppable shot into Kev’s top left hand corner of the net.
This spurred Molesey into life, with some good passing football down both sides of the pitch.
It was from 1 of the many Molesey build ups when Roy went to receive a pinpoint pass in the box but was felled from behind, resulting in a Molesey penalty. Up stepped Monty, who calmly planted the ball wide of the keepers left hand, 2-1 with 36 minutes gone.
The final few minutes was a cagey affair, with both side having a couple of half chances.

HT Westside 2 Molesey 1

The 2nd half started with the Molesey tails on the up.
It looked like from the off Molesey best chance of attack was to run at the Westside’s back 4.
It was a great move that started from Molesey’s own 6 yard box that resulted in the equalizer, it started when Christian calmly played the ball to the edge of the Molesey box, then the ball was spread out to the right hand side and then played through the middle of the Westside defence for Tevon Webster to slot under the advancing keeper.
Both sides continued to push for the winner and with the surface getting wetter from the constant rain, mistakes could have costly.
It could have been a mistake from the ref who deemed a push from the Westside substitute OK, allowing the home side to break down the left and cross for a goal mouth scramble to result in Westside snatching all 3 points with only a minute to go.
Molesey should reflect in their slow start and missed opportunities from some great build up football.
Final Score Westside 3 Molesey 2.
Onto Saturday when Woodley Utd are the visitors at Walton Road.
