Molesey 2 v 1 Berks County
After two very competitive fixtures between the two sides last season and with teams in second and sixth in the league, this match was going to be another tight and competitive game.
After a few minutes, it was clear that the pre-match thoughts of a competitive fixture were true as both sides were not going to give the ball away easily.
Berks County had the better of the early exchanges as it was a very lacklustre Molesey side that produced very little to cheer in the first half. It was in the 20th minute when Berks County too a deserved lead when the ball was played in from the Berks County left to Luke Hayden who turned and hit an unstoppable shot across Wheller and into top opposite top corner of the net!
Berks County kept the upper hand over Molesey in the remainder of the first half and what chances came Molesey’s way were either snatched at or were missed through lack of composure in front of goal.
Molesey started the second half much brighter and with more intent but what chances came there way they couldn’t convert, when they were going in earlier in the season.
The goal that they were looking for came in the 70th minute when Palm had no problems scoring from the penalty spot. With Berks County down to ten men when Dan Money was sent off for a second Yellow card, Molesey pushed on for a second and possibly winning goal.
Chances came and went but these missed chances for Molesey looked as though they would cost the team that a vistory was a deserved result. With seconds to go Molesey’s superior fitness and tenacity paid off when Blessing was put clear and he ran on and superbly put the ball past the Berks County goal keeper and win the game for Molesey in the last seconds of the match!
This was a difficult game for the team but it shows that team work and a tenacious attitude can see them come out victorious!
Well done lads, a well-deserved victory!
