McSHANE BRACE NOT ENOUGHT FOR MOLES WIN

Molesey recorded a rare home draw as the two most recent Combined Counties Premier Division champions met at Walton Road.

Not since a 1-1 draw with Farnham Town on the final day of the 2013/14 season - which was officially an away fixture - have the Moles picked up a solitary point at home.

James McShane's brace was sandwiched between Asa Rixon-Nicholls' early header and Kieran Lavery's penalty. The Moles finished with ten men when substitute Sam Robinson was sent off with ten minutes remaining.

The Moles might feel they deserved three points but were relieved with the draw by the end, with Nathan Ayling wasting a glorious chance to win it in stoppage time.

Rixon-Nicholls opened the scoring in the fifth minute when he climbed to head home a corner, but the Moles' response was impressive, with Dre Grobbler drawing a fine save from James Wastell almost immediately from the re-start.

They weren't behind for long, and it owed much to the determination of Staforde Palmer, who skipped past two challenges on the byline and pulled the ball back for McShane to ride another challenge and finish confidently into the top corner.

Reis Stanislaus and Rob Sheridan both fired wide, but clear chances were few and far between as the half drew to a close.

Ex Mole Wastell was his usual charismatic self but made a rare error when the excellent Grobbler set up McShane on the edge of the box and Wastell allowed McShane's weak volley to creep under his body and into the net.

Remarkably, McShane continues to keep pace with the division's top scorers despite his midfield role, and he almost grabbed his hat-trick when he got on the end of Tom Windsor's through ball and poked the ball over Wastell, but it bounced agonisingly wide of the far post.

It turned out to be the game's turning point, as just three minutes later the visitors were back on level terms.

Ross Chalkes once again impressed at full-back, but when stretching to cut out a through ball he inadvertently diverted the ball into Kofi Kwarty's path.

Kwarty rounded Liam Allen, who wiped him out to concede a penalty. He was saved a red card by the ball travelling away from goal. Lavery smashed home the spot kick.

Robinson had only been on the pitch a number of minutes when he was sent off for an alleged elbow, and from that point onwards the home side were up against it.

Lavery missed a chance to win all three points for South Park, but the best chance fell to Ayling in the dying moments, 8 yards from goal and with Allen stranded, but to the Moles' relief he put his effort wide.
