.The recent signing from Carshalton Athletic bagged a clinical first half brace, and added a third with fifteen minutes remaining. Dave Rihoy’s reply for the visitors was merely a consolation.
The two sides went into the match separated only by goal difference. The three points puts Molesey three places and ten points above the relegation zone with ten matches remaining. Safety is by no means assured, but this win went a long way to settling some nerves following a miserable run of four points from the past dozen games.
In addition to Sobowale, Ross Chalke made a welcome return to the midfield following a brief spell away at Colliers Wood.
Many of the Guernsey stalwarts who have featured so prominently since their inception in 2009 have now moved on, and they’re certainly a poorer side for it. They ended up well beaten but their young side did not deserve the abuse dished out by a minority of their travelling support at various points of the afternoon.
Sobowale needed only four minutes to make an impact, combining neatly with Joe Nwoko and finishing confidently beyond Josh Addison from the edge of the box.
The Moles then had a raft of chances to increase the lead.
Sobowale fired into the side netting and Lewington’s deflected free kick crept just the wrong side of the post.
Addison made a good save to deny Josh Andrews following a fine team move, but then came a moment to forget for the youngster on the half hour mark.
A fairly routine backpass was horrendously sliced into the path of the onrushing Sobowale. The angle was unfavourable, but Sobowale kept his cool and took a couple of touches before steering home, despite the best efforts of Jacob Fallaize on the line.
Nwoko hit the side netting and Addison made a decent stop from Windsor as the Moles looked to put the game to bed.
Guernsey’s only openings came from the dangerous Matt Loaring, but their chances of taking anything from the game took a further blow when he hobbled off before the half was out.
After such a dominant first half Molesey lacked the intensity in the second half, but still could have added to their lead when Addison denied Ryan David.
The visitors made it more of a contest, and missed a golden opportunity to halve the deficit when Dom Heaume beat Liam Allen to a through ball, but with defenders scampering back his effort sailed well over the bar.
Antonio Simeone hit a free-kick inside the box into the Guernsey wall, after the ref had somewhat harshly penalised Addison for picking up a block rather than backpass.
Sobowale had been a menace all afternoon, and got a deserved third with a clinical finish from a tight angle having been played in by Ashley Lodge.
Rihoy netted a quickfire reply from the edge of the box, and things might have got very nervy had Simon Geall not placed a free header wide from a corner with over five minutes left to play, but the Moles held out in relative comfort for a much needed three points.
