HARD FOUGHT WIN FOR THE MOLES

HARD FOUGHT WIN FOR THE MOLES

Mark Billett11 Sep 2017 - 11:55

When asked, Molesey manager Peter Lelliott said, ''It wasn't pretty, we changed our normal style of play as I felt we needed a change for this game...

we dug in and got the valuable 3 points thanks to a great strike by Ronny. We defended stoutly although we had a few scary moments, but Liam was on hand to make 2 important saves, so very pleased for Liam especially and of course our defence to keep a clean sheet. In addition, I am also pleased that we are still creating chances, but what is somewhat disappointing at the moment, we need to take these chances to give us some breathing space, but with hard work in training, it will come. ALL the team worked hard, with excellent application to the cause and for that I cannot praise them enough for their efforts for today's victory''.

So, Molesey travelled into Kent and earned all 3 points beating a hard working Ashford Utd team
1-0 in the Bostik League South.

With the sun shinning, Craig Lewington was the first player to have a half chance when found himself in the box with more time than he realised, his flicked headed going wide. The ever dependable Liam Allen was called into early action when came out saving with his feet. Olu Akinsanya linked up well with hard working Josh Andrew allowing Antonio Simeone a shooting chance in the 18 minute. Molesey grew into the game with Manny Quarshie causing constant problems for the Ashford defence. Liam commanded his box well all day, making a few saves from the limited Ashford chances. Olu forced the Ashford keeper into a great save when he was put through by Ross Chalke to keep the score level at half time.

HT 0-0

Ashford had the first chance of the second half when Liam easily saved again with his feet again.
Manny had a shot blocked early on. Craig made an athletic block from one of the few chances Ashford created. Ross forced the Ashford keeper into a Liam like save with his feet, Dre Grobler saw his rebound chance blocked by lucky defender. With both sides tiring, Pete Lelliott brought on Ronald Sobowale, with the change not taking long to make the difference, when Ronald made his own space on the edge of the box and with a perfect curled shot found the back of the net. Ashby Charles had a great shot from a tight angle, some how the Ashford keeper and cross bar kept the score 1-0. Darius Heravi came on to strengthen up in the midfield.
All 3 Molesey defenders Ryan David, Antonio Simeone and Rhys Paul had great games along with Liam giving the Moles their first clean sheet of the season.
A well deserved result from an all round hard working Molesey team.
