Molesey 0-4 Lewes

Mark Billett28 Mar 2018 - 09:57

Molesey’s long wait for a win continued as leaders Lewes took another step towards the Bostick League Division One South title with a comprehensive victory.

Two goals in the opening quarter of an hour did the damage, and a further two goals in the final eight minutes following defensive mistakes put a slightly flattering look on the scoreline.

There was plenty of endeavour from the home side but a lack of end product, as demonstrated by having just one effort on target all evening.

The visitors used the ball much more effectively and were solid and well-organised defensively, posing a threat every time they went forward.

Five minutes were on the clock when a fine team move that must have involved some 25 passes resulted in Charlie Coppola crossing from the byline and Ronnie Conlon slotting home.

Within no time it was two, with Jonte Smith clipping home from a tight angle after a lightning quick break.

Molesey giving the ball away in dangerous areas almost resulted in further goals, but both Smith and Billy Medlock were wasteful in front of goal.

Medlock had a goal ruled out for offside, and Leon Redwood failed to find the target from distance twice in quick succession.

The Moles’ only effort on goal in the opening half saw Anthony Kozakis shoot high and wide after good hold up play from Tayo Oyebola.

It was the home side that was on the front foot for much of the second half with Lewes seemingly taking their foot off the pedal, although the closest they came to halving the deficit was Oyebola’s header from Craig Lewington’s corner that was brilliantly kept out by Rooks keeper Chris Winterton.

A rare mistake from Liam Allen gift-wrapped a third for Medlock when the Moles keeper allowed Marcus Elliott’s cross to slip underneath him.

And as the clock struck 90 minutes Mohammed Kamara tried to take on too many Lewes attackers in his own half and was pick-pocketed by Harry Reed, who crossed for fellow sub Elliott to head home.
