The first half was not a good advert for the division as not much football was on display. Molesey were relatively comfortable dealing with the long ball from Cheshunt in search of their forward Hafeez Sanusi. Dre Grobler on his return to the starting line up handled this aerial threat admirably.
Molesey created only a few half chances with Ryan Marklew even attempting a bicycle kick. Cheshunt grabbed the lead 5 minutes before half time when a cross from the right wasn’t dealt with, and the resulting shot on goal was stopped by Ashby Charles who was adjudged to of handled it. Ashby Charles received a red card for the offence and Molesey suffered the double whammy as Tom Wade slammed home the rebound.
HT: 0-1
Second half saw Molesey in the ascendancy even though down to 10 men with Athan Smith-Joseph having to fill in at right back.
The game saw controversy in the 88th minute when the referee played a good advantage when Dre Grobler was fouled by a Cheshunt forward, but his pass found Ryan Marklew who in turn played the ball wide to the right for Dylan Cascoe. He took one touch then whipped in a dangerous cross which saw Tayo Oyebola pushes to the ground in the box. The referee blew as Dre Grobler and the Cheshunt striker had squared up to book them, went back to speak to the linesman who notify him of the foul in the box, but decide to give us a free-kick for the foul on Grobler!
This resulted in Molesey suffering another defeat to keep us rooted to the bottom of the table. Defensively there have been massive improvements and next week we break from the League to travel to Three Bridges in the FA Trophy Preliminary Round.
