A strange game to write a match report...Bedfont coming into the game with some much needed confidence on the back of three points at the weekend and then Molesey, who had won 3 out of 3 and were top of the pile and who you would of thought would be brimming with confidence.

What actually developed over the 90 minutes was in fact, Bedfont appearing to be nervous, unsettled and as if they were expecting something special from Molesey after the previous 3 wins. However, Molesey also seemed nervous, unsettled or maybe they just have not played anyone of any real quality in the previous 3 games. Could have also been that they are not used to playing on a decent surface. It was long raking direct passes for the majority of the night to a couple of relatively quick players and that was about it.

The game overall was littered with little mistakes, bad touches and mis-placed passes. Indeed it was a a series of little mistakes that lead to Molesey scoring the first goal of the night, in the first half. To be fair it was also against the run of play, as Bedfont were relatively on-top in the early phases of play but still neither team totally convincing or dominating. Bedfont did respond and with some good phases of build-up play, got the ball out to the right hand side and eventually a ball was delivered and Cookie was all alone at the back post to slot home, totally un-marked.

At the half-time whistle, it was level pegging and still neither team taking the game by the scruff of the neck and dominating.

The second half began as the first half had finished, quite a lot of huff and puff, long-ball from the visitors and plenty of hurry hurry but no clear-cut opportunities created. That was until a couple more little mistakes by Bedfont led to an opportunity being gifted and ultimately converted successfully by a Molesey player, to make it 2 - 1. At this point of the game, Bedfont tried to force a way back into the game by introducing fresh legs and themselves started to play somewhat more directly. While this created a number of opportunities to get level in the final phase of the game, it also left Bedfont susceptible to the counter-attack and the long ball over the top for the direct running forwards. Both sides had some final chances that were not converted and therefore we ended with the scoreline of 2 -1 in favour of the visitors.

While Molesey extended the winning streak to four consecutive games, the management and players must be hoping for much better performances in future games, as on the night they got away with it. Had Bedfont had more self-belief, more commitment and more desire on the night themselves, then the points were definitely available for the taking.

Some positives for Gavin and Stuart though that they will no-doubt build-on for the game away at Croydon on Saturday, in search for the next 3 points in the campaign.
