Molesey crashed to their fourth home defeat of the season as they were convincingly beaten 3-0 by Egham Town.
Well taken goals from Reis Stanislavs and Tommy Hedges gave the visitors a commanding half-time lead and they could even afford the luxury of Jamie Read missing a penalty.
The Moles improved after the break but rarely looked like scoring, and substitute Bradley Fraser's late third put the result beyond doubt. The Moles were clearly set up to try and contain the free-scoring Sarnies and hit them on the break, and for the opening quarter this tactic appeared to be working well, with the home midfield denying the visitors space, and Jordan McCartney and Kristian Webb commanding at the back.
Indeed the best opportunity of this period fell the home side's way, with Joe Grant - preferred up front to Manny Quarshie - latching onto Nick White's clever through ball, but after turning Louis Chandler he shot wide when perhaps a pass to Lewis Ackerman was the better option.
Stansilavs was a handful for the home defence all afternoon and won his side a penalty after being bundled over by McCartney. However, Read, who appeared offside in the build up to the decision, crashed his spot kick against the bar.
The Moles were dealt a double blow with the enforced withdrawal of White and Andy Graves through injury, and shortly afterwards they were a goal down when Stanislavs cut in from the left and fired past Wester Young from twenty yards.
Hedges and Luke Elliott had a running spat for much of the half and it was the Egham winger who had the last laugh when he was put one on one with Elliott. The Molesey skipper tried to usher Hedges onto his less favoured left foot, but in doing so afforded him too much space and he was able to cut inside and fire home a classy finish with the outside of his right foot.
The home side improved as an attacking force in the second half with Elliott's set piece deliveries causing some anxious moments in the visitors defence, however, they were very well marshalled by ex Mole Alex Rodrigues and Jim Ward who limited the Moles to half chances.
On the rare moments they did find a way through they found Paul Borg in his usual commanding form, particularly when he tipped a swerving drive from Quarshie over the bar. Grant's horrendously misplaced pass presented another golden opportunity to Read,
but it wasn't to be the Egham top scorer's day and he dragged his effort wide. Fittingly it was Stanislavs who was the provider for the final goal as his powerful run down the left was cut back for Fraser to tap in from close range, and the final score did not flatter the visitors.
The Moles open their Southern Combination Cup campaign on Tuesday with a trip to neighbours Walton Casuals, who at the same time that Molesey were losing to Egham, were remarkably letting a 6-1 lead over Merstham crumble and ended up drawing 6-6! League action returns to Walton Road next Saturday with the visit of Dorking.
