Molesey 1-2 Hanworth Villa - Official Match Report

Mark Billett3 Oct 2012 - 15:58

Molesey's abysmal home record against Hanworth Villa continued as they fell to their fifth successive home defeat to the Villians in their first game of the season at Walton Road.

Adam Baigent gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half before Luke Elliott equalised for the Moles halfway through the second. The home side then looked the more likely victors but a mistake by Doug Ford deep inside visitor territory led to a lightning quick counter-attack that was finished off by Lee Morley for the winner.

Unsurprisingly Molesey were unchanged from the side that put six past Sandhurst on Saturday, and they edged the opening twenty minutes, with Joe Pratley-Jones testing Barry Marchena from distance and the Hanworth keeper then saving well from Nathan Motley.

There was controversy when Marchena pulled off a fine double save to deny Nick White and then Ross Chalke from close range, but in the scramble that followed Marchena practically rugby-tackled Chalke to the ground to win the loose ball, with the ref ruling that he had done so fairly.

The visitors took the lead when a dangerous free-kick from deep was missed by both attack and defence and seemed destined for the far corner. Wester Young reacted well to clear the ball away but instead of settling for a corner the move was kept alive by Duane Antonio, and after Young had saved well again the ball fell invitingly to Baigent who lashed the ball home from 12 yards.

This seemed to galvanise the visitors, who for the remainder of the half were hungrier for the ball and used it more effectively than the Moles.

The opening stages of the second half were scrappy, with the home side gradually getting back into the game as the half wore on, and it was no surprise when Elliott got on the end of White's through ball and shot first time below Marchena to draw the home side level.

The Moles had the bit between their teeth but fell to a sucker punch when Ford picked up the ball on halfway and carried it unopposed for thirty yards, however, his intended pass to Motley fell short and within no time the visitors had countered with men over, Antonio playing in the unmarked Morley who fired past Young to restore the visitors' advantage.

Molesey threw on Arnold Tawonezvi and Will Marlowe in an attempt to get something from the game, and despite forcing a succession of corners and several half-chances, Marchena was well protected by those in front of him and Villa held on for the victory
