Molesey's inconsistent recent form continued as they were beaten 2-0 at home by Colliers Wood in a game that was a poor advert for the Combined Counties League.

A Colliers Wood outfit who were only able to name one substitute did the damage with two goals in eight minutes either side of half-time. A quick free kick played out wide caught the Moles napping, and Cornell McKoy's terrific cross was met by the head of Mario Embalo to give them the lead.

The visitors had shown absolutely no attacking intent whatsoever up until that point, indeed it wasn't until twenty minutes were on the clock that Wester Young in the Molesey goal had his first touch of the ball, but within five minutes of the re-start it was two, Eli Ogunseye being allowed far too much space on the Molesey left and firing across Wester Young to increase the visitors' lead.

The early stages gave little indication of what was to come, with Molesey dominating the first half hour. Kristian Webb headed Joe Pratley-Jones' free kick over the cross bar from inside the six yard box, before Manny Quarshie fired wide when one on one with Dan Burnett.

Burnett then reacted superbly to tip Lewis Ackerman's close range volley over the crossbar, and you got the sense that if one of those efforts had gone in the Moles would have relaxed and gone on to win handsomely.

As it was they ran out of ideas against a very well organised Colliers Wood defence and other than a couple of efforts from distance from the hard-working Pratley-Jones, didn't threaten again.

The inclusion of four central midfielders inevitably led to a lack of width and congestion in the centre of the park, and although full-backs Andy Graves and Tom Dilloway tried manfully to get forward they often found themselves pegged back by Wood's pacy wingers.

Molesey were dealt a blow with the withdrawal of Webb through injury, and despite throwing extra attackers into the mix the second half was as poor a 45 minutes of football that you're likely to see.

The defeat means that the Moles have lost three of their opening four home fixtures and have now lost five on the bounce against Colliers Wood. They'll have to be considerably better to avoid a hiding at high-flying Badshot Lea next Saturday.
