Molesey got back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Horley Town.
Dale Marvell’s stoppage time goal won it for the Moles against a Horley side that came in to the game in the bottom three and finished it propping up the table.
It was harsh on the visitors, who had much the better of the first half and deservedly took the lead when Devaun Best got the better of Moses Spencer to powerfully head home from a corner.
The power of Best and pace and trickery of Jeffrey Mahadoo caused the Moles back 4 plenty of problems during the opening period, and the two combined later in the half but Mahadoo failed to hit the target.
The Moles had offered precious little going forward but were back on terms before the break when Chan Quan’s low cross was met by a brave diving header from Tom Windsor for his third goal of the season.
The second half was a different story for the home side, and within ten minutes of the re-start they had taken the lead. The ref somewhat harshly adjudged that Marvell’s shot struck a defender’s arm, when he had turned down a more clear-cut handball appeal moments before.
Marc Powel kept out Luke Elliott’s penalty, but Elliott kept his cool to fire the high bouncing rebound into the opposite corner.
The Mole dominated the next twenty minutes or so, with Craig Lewington clipping the bar with a 20 yard free kick and Windsor being denied by a terrific near post save by Powel after some very good hold up play by Marvell.
Both Spencer and Marvell missed close-range efforts from set-pieces, and the Moles looked like they would pay for their wastefulness when Ashley Nadasan fired past Wester Young as the clock struck 90 minutes.
However, the Moles threw bodies forward and grabbed the winner when Marvell spun sharply and fired past Powel, although Horley’s appeals for a push in the build up appeared well-founded.
An ugly win, but a win nonetheless. Molesey will hope for more of the same with the visit of Mole Valley SCR in midweek.
