Molesey 0-0 Windsor - Official Match Report

Mark Billett20 Nov 2013 - 18:42

By Andrew Finch

Molesey extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a goalless draw with ten man Windsor.

Kristian Webb's second half header against the bar was the closest the either side came to breaking the deadlock on a frustrating evening for the Moles, who will feel they did more than enough to win the game.

The visitors could argue they deserved their point, with centre halves Dan Hicks and Peter Kirby outstanding all evening, and stand in keeper George Gould - who usually operates as a striker - pulling off a number of fine saves.

Perhaps aware of an outfield player's presence in goal the Moles operated a shoot on sight policy but were wasteful in front of goal, with the usually deadly Matt Baxter being the main culprit.

With the exception of the red carded Rob Lazarczuk Windsor were extremely disciplined and defended well as a team, but their first effort on target was a stoppage time free kick from Hicks that was comfortably dealt with by Wester Young, who was well protected by another impressive showing from Moles' centre halves Webb and Ollie Robinson.

The game very nearly got off to a blistering start, with the Moles losing possession straight from the kick off and only a last ditch tackle from Joe Pratley-Jones prevented Kane Jones a run at goal.

Kyle Lucas' trickery caused the Moles some problems throughout the evening, and he set up Lazarczuk, whose effort was creeping wide but was helped on its way by Young.

The Moles gradually imposed themselves on the game as the half wore on, with Tom Windsor and Ross Chalke having efforts from distance that just cleared the bar, then an effort from the edge of the box from Chalke was clawed round the post from Gould.

Pratley-Jones hit a terrific volley from 35 yards which bounced awkwardly in front of Gould and was tentatively pushed round the post, although James McShane's usually pin point radar was off slightly for Molesey's set pieces, and the dangerous balls that did find their way into the box were usually gobbled up by Hicks.

A defensive mistake presented Baxter with an opportunity that he snatched at and put harmlessly wide with McShane completely unmarked in the box and awaiting the ball across goal.

Chalke then evaded three challenges and played a clever give and go with McShane, but all that was missing was the finish, as he lifted the ball over Gould but just over the bar as well.

The Moles continued the pressure in the second half but had fewer clear cut chances. McShane's controlled volley from Dale Marvell's high cross was well saved by Gould, who did well to cut out dangerous crosses from both McShane and Marvell.

Webb's header from a corner beat Gould but came back off the bar, and in the resulting scramble for the ball the Moles felt that Luke Elliott had been pulled down, but the ref waved away the half-hearted protests.

Moments later he also waved away Windsor appeals for a penalty, and booked substitute Joe Blount for diving.

Having talked his way into the book in the first half Lazarczuk was a red card waiting to happen all evening, and received his marching orders for brainlessly kicking out at McShane with ten minutes to go.

McShane twice skipped clear on the left in the closing stages, but dragged an effort wide and then saw his pull back cut out by Kirby as the Moles looked for a late winner.

Baxter and substitute Nick White both wasted chances towards the end of the game, while Hicks' tame free kick was virtually the last action of the match.

Windsor were the happier of the sides at the final whistle, and the Moles will be back in action on Saturday with the visit of fellow title chasers Epsom & Ewell.
