Banstead Match Report

Banstead 1 Molesey 1

The 1st point on the road for the Moles came with a hard fought 1-1 draw at Banstead.
Earlier in the morning the heavens had opened, which gave the Banstead pitch a good playing surface for the 3pm kick off at Merland Rise.
The game started well with both teams exchanging short spells of possession
Bandstand took the lead, when Alex Stingelin was given too much space to head in from close range in the 8th minute.
6 minutes latter, Boe Fowler received a yellow card for a lazy challenge on a Banstead midfielder.
The ref was willing to let the game continue, even when some of the spectators winced at the sight of some of the challenges from both sides.
Linden Evans took a blow to the mid drift and continued until just before half time and he was replaced by Paps Doukoure.
Banstead would have gone into the half time break feeling on top and rightly so.
The 2nd half re started as the 1st half finished with Banstead having some good spells of possession but with something missing in front of goal. This could have given Molesey the confidence to grow and have equal good spells of possession football.
Warren made 2 further substitutions in the 2nd half with Josh Turner replacing Ryan Lloyd up front and Wills Robinson on for Boe Fowler, who was already on an earlier yellow card. Both changes gave Molesey some fresh legs and it was Wills who was softly bundled over in the penalty area in the 68th minute that gave the Moles away back into the game. Up stepped Jonathan Gtoshe who placed the ball in the left hand corner on the Banstead net.
Molesey grew in confidence and created some good chances, the best falling to Josh Turner who rounded the keeper only for the assistance to rule offside.
The only sour event of the game was when the Banstead number 3 was deemed to have maliciously stamped on Wills on his landing just in front of the dugouts, the assistance gave his version to the ref and the Banstead number 2 was shown a straight red.
Overall 1-1 was a fair result.
Molesey Man of the match, Jonathan Gtoshe

Next up for the Moles is Guildford City, Saturday 30th October at Home.
